You meet with your client, discuss their design needs, and produce sketches which may include paint, wallpaper, furniture, carpets, and other decorative elements. With the designs agreed you proceed to completion of the actual decoration. You can work freelance, or for an interior decoration company. You may also specialize in, for example, domestic or industrial interiors. What Skills do Interior Decorators need?You will require good design skills and excellent communication skills. Guiding clients towards effective decoration schemes will not always be easy, so tact and patience will go a long way. You will also need an extensive knowledge of the elements of decoration, such as paints and fabrics, and the practical skills to undertake the actual decoration.
What Training is Required to be a Interior Decorator?Unlike interior designers, interior decorators are not required to meet any training standards before working. You can, however, increase your skill base by undertaking a college program to develop both your aesthetic and technical abilities. Not only will this make you a better interior decorator, it can inspire confidence in potential clients.
