E-Learning ToolsHome » e-Learning » E-Learning ToolsWhat are e-learning tools? Almost anything can be – any computer application that links with the internet, and even E-learning tools do fall into three main categories: content/course or learning management systems, synchronous collaboration applications, and a general "everything else" category. Here are some types of e-learning tools: Performance Support
Among the e-learning tools, Electronic Performance Support Systems are a must. They offer you guidance and support on-demand through references, guided instruction, searchable databanks, or other means. Web-Based Training (WBT)
WBT (also known as computer based training, or CBT, and many other names) is a type of e-learning tool that delivers computer-based training through the World Wide Web. Video Conferencing
New e-learning tools allow for greater interaction between the student and instructor and among the students themselves. Synchronous video, in which the instructor is recorded live and the students watch the footage at the exact same time from different locations, allows this process to work. The students then must have headphones and microphones also synchronized to the system allowing them to listen and ask questions. This creates a virtual classroom over the internet. Audiographic E-Learning Tools
Another type of synchronous, or simultaneous, instruction, these systems also have a speaker and microphone system in place and additionally allow the instructor to use a whiteboard or other type of drawing table to depict information. Depending on the system and the course, students may have their own drawing tables as well and can demonstrate their own work, again resembling a classroom setting since the instructor and students are all logged in at the same time. Such wide varieties of tools already exist to help you with your e-learning, and as new technologies develop you can expect to see even more.
