Computer Science Degrees - Computer Science Careers

Computer science degrees are available at all levels, from associate's degrees to Ph.D.s, and computer science degrees are alsoavailable in a number of specialties within the field, for instance degrees specializing in computer hardware, data systems, or programming language design. 

On a basic level, though, all computer science degrees are alike in providing individuals with expertise in computers and the scientific underpinnings that make them work.  But regardless of whether your interests are in hardware, software, database theory, or programming, there is a computer science degree that can provide you with the background you seek.

Opportunities in Computer Science

A wide range of careers are possible for individuals with computer science degrees.   A career as a computer scientist is an obvious choice.  Computer scientists can find work in both academia and the private sector.  Computer scientists who work at universities typically spend more of their time on research and computer science theory than do computer scientists who work in the private sector.

Disciplines related to Computer Science Degrees

In the private sector, many computer scientists, in addition to developing marketable products, spend some of their time managing projects or even working as executives more generally.  In addition to work as a computer scientist, computer science degrees can prepare students to work in related disciplines like network administration or computer and information systems analysis and management.   Jobs in computer programming or computer repairare also possibilities with training in computer science.

Job Outlook for Computer Science

The number of jobs for individuals with computer science degrees continues to rise, making the job outlook strong for the field. Computer systems continue to play an increasingly important role inevery sector of the economy, and as a result the demand for talented individuals withcomputer science degrees is as great as ever.
