AutoCAD Drafting Schools - Drafter Training

AutoCAD is the world's most popular computer-aided drafting software, produced by Autodesk, Inc. Basically,Auto CAD Drafting Schools anything that can be drawn on a drawing board can be drawn more quickly and efficiently on AutoCAD.

What will I learn from AutoCAD Drafting Schools?

AutoCad drafting schools teach students to prepare technical drawings and plans used by production and construction workers to build everything from manufactured products, such as toys, toasters, industrial machinery, and spacecraft, to structures, such as houses, office buildings, and oil and gas pipelines.

These drawings provide visual guidelines, show the technical details of the products and structures, and specify dimensions, materials, and procedures.

In the old days, drafters sat at drawing boards and used pencils, pens, compasses, protractors, triangles, and other drafting devices to prepare a drawing manually. Most drafters now use AutoCAD.

Learning to draft with AutoCAD isn’t quite as simple as learning to use a word processor or home computer. That is why employers today prefer applicants who have completed postsecondary school training in drafting. AutoCAD drafting schools, usually part of a university or community college, offer the training necessary.

A good AutoCAD drafting school will teach the skills employers are most interested in, including well-developed drafting and mechanical-drawing; knowledge of drafting standards, mathematics, science, and engineering technology; and a solid background in computer-aided design and drafting techniques.

Job Prospects for AutoCAD Drafters

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, drafters held about 216,000 jobs in 2002. Architectural and civil drafters held about half of all jobs for drafters, mechanical drafters held about a third of all jobs, and the rest of all jobs were held by electrical and electronics drafters.

AutoCAD drafting is pleasant work. Most drafters work a standard 40-hour week. Drafters usually work in comfortable offices furnished to accommodate their tasks. However, because they spend long periods in front of computer terminals doing detailed work, drafters may be susceptible to eyestrain, back discomfort, and hand and wrist problems.
