Marketing and Advertising Careers

Marketing and Advertising Marketing and advertising are closely linked; however one is incorporated by the other. Advertising is a method of communicating the benefits of a product or service to a target customer base.

You could use print or electronic media, television, radio, or video.

Marketing incorporates promotion, but also addresses product, place, price, and packaging aspects. All of these aspects are equally important in the marketing mix.

Marketing and Advertising Careers

Marketing and advertising is an interesting and exciting world in which to work. Famous, large agencies can afford to choose only the very best recruits. If you have marketing and advertising training this may help give you a head start over people with no experience.

Smaller agencies in particular generally suffer from a strong ebb and flow of work. They generally need somebody who can hit the ground running, but cannot afford to take on a new recruit with heavy demand for training. With your marketing and advertising training, you can immediately start making a real contribution to the business with minimal supervision.

Marketing and Advertising Job Outlook

With advertising and marketing training, you could search for employment with agencies specializing in offering advertising, marketing, or PR services. Large corporations tend to have a dedicated marketing department, so you might find some opportunities here. If working within media appeals you could pursue a career with a television or radio station. Another option that could be appealing is print media. Or you could start in local radio or with your town newspaper.

Typical entry-level jobs in advertising and marketing might be assistant product manager or a role selling advertising space in a magazine. As you gain more experience, you could become product range manger or even director of marketing if you can show exceptional talent and business acumen. Career progression may also come in the form of working for a more prestigious employer such as a glossy magazine or national rather than local media company.
