Civil Engineering Schools Civil Engineering may not sound like the most enterprising profession in the world, but it has been a key part of some of the most thrilling construction projects ever undertaken. Massive dams, buildings that soar into the clouds, bridges that vanish into the distance. Here are a few examples to inspire you!

Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge

Completed in 1998, the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge in Japan is the longest suspension bridge in the world. It stretches nearly 13,000 ft, linking the town of Kobe to Awaji-shima Island. It also boasts the highest bridge towers in the world, rising to 928 feet.

Longest Bridge in the USA

America's longest bridge is the Verrazano Narrows Bridge which links Brooklyn and Statten Island in New York City. Completed in 1961, its central span of 4,240 feet made it the world's longest suspension bridge until 1981, when it was overtaken by the Humber Bridge in England.

CN Tower

Soaring to over 1,800 feet the CN Tower in Toronto is the highest free-standing structure in the world. This extraordinary building weighs more than 23,000 elephants, and can withstand winds of over 250 mph.

Other world-famous feats of civil engineering include The Panama Canal, The Empire State Building, and the Golden Gate Bridge, which were all record setters when constructed.
