Industrial Management Modern manufacturing industry requires not only machinery, plant, and technology, it needs experts in Industrial Management to ensure that the many parts of the production process are handled efficiently and effectively.

The main responsibility of an Industrial Manager is usually to plan and control a schedule for production which takes into account resources, deadlines, and budgets.

Industrial Managers may also focus on particular sections of the production chain, such as controlling inventory, quality management, or buying and maintaining production equipment.

Industrial Management Duties

As a worker in Industrial Management your exact duties would depend on the type and size of business you worked in. In a smaller company you might be responsible for the day-to-day running of all aspects of manufacturing, coordinating people, machines and raw materials. In a large company you would be likely to concentrate on a particular aspect of production.

You might, for instance, ensure that raw materials were procured at the best price and delivered on time, or ensure that goods were manufactured to appropriate quality standards. Making certain that a production unit has the right inventory of materials and partly-completed goods is also a key duty of Industrial Management.

Industrial Management Job Opportunities

Manufacturing businesses are by far the largest employers of Industrial Managers, with all manufacturing industries offering opportunities in Industrial Management. This is not a particularly fast growth job area, although increases in manufacturing output combined with more sophisticated production systems should create good future prospects for well-qualified Industrial Managers.

If you aspire to work in Industrial Management, then you should assume your future employers will expect you to have a college degree as Industrial Management is now firmly established as a career for graduates.
